It is the fourth time I have been involved, and I consider it the biggest event in my home town.<\/p>\n<p>What were my favourite events and happenings at QCon?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting with the people and having inspired conservations about technology <\/li>\n<li>Meeting <strong>Wendy Devolder<\/strong> of <strong>SkillsMatter<\/strong> and discussing the Functional Exchange <\/li>\n<li>The Java Community Panel on Thursday afternoon with <strong>Stephen Colebourne<\/strong>, <strong>Ben Alex<\/strong>, <strong>Mark Little<\/strong>, <strong>Jerome Dochez<\/strong> and <strong>Patrick Curran<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>Twitter conversation with <strong>Alex Blewitt<\/strong> about the JCP, the future of Java <\/li>\n<li><strong>Mark Powell<\/strong>\u2019s evening key note on the Jet Propulsion Lab, which contains many Star Trek references <\/li>\n<li>Speaker\u2019s dinner where I tabled with <strong>Mark Powell<\/strong>, <strong>Glenn Vanderburg<\/strong> and <strong>Kevin Henney<\/strong> and had a fantastic conversation about <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Mote_in_God%27s_Eye\" target=\"_blank\">The Mote in God\u2019s Eye<\/a> and science fiction writers, TV, movies and books <\/li>\n<li>The speaker dinner\u2019s at the restaurant Inn The Park <\/li>\n<li>Meeting individuals like <strong>Christian Kellner<\/strong> and <strong>Daniel Temme<\/strong> of TimoCom, Duesseldorf, Germany; <strong>Juan Germano<\/strong> of Core Security from Argentina; <strong>Gary Harvey<\/strong> of Trifork; <\/li>\n<li>Winning an Amazon Kindle 3 Wi-Fi bundle in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fusesource.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>FuseSource<\/strong><\/a> prize drive!!! (Thanks to <strong>Matt Thayer<\/strong>)&#160; <\/li>\n<li>Being asked questions about JCP, Future of Java <\/li>\n<li><strong>Paul Albettele<\/strong> asked me about the future of Java \/ Scala. Should I learn Scala? Should I learn functional programming? <strong>Michael Klove<\/strong> also inquired about Scala\u2019s future too <\/li>\n<li>Chatting with Googler <strong>Ade Oshineye<\/strong> and eavesdropping on his photograph tips to a fellow conference goer <\/li>\n<li>Meeting <strong>Simon Ritter<\/strong> on the Oracle booth and discussing the JavaFX 2.0 early access release and experiments there of <\/li>\n<li>Meeting Artifactory \/ JFrog folk again <strong>Yoav Landman<\/strong>, <strong>Shlomi Ben-haim<\/strong> and <strong>Talin<\/strong>,&#160;
